Westwood Private Residence

What drew the clients to this 1936 fixer-upper was the central courtyard, around which the entire home is arranged. To transform the space, the original concrete floor was replaced with marble tiles in a classic checkerboard pattern, wood paneling was removed to expose clean walls, and the brick fireplace was updated with striking black Zellige tile. An underutilized corner was reimagined as an entertainer’s bar, complete with a sleek Dekton countertop and built-in storage.

In the front yard, a double-wide brick walkway on a sloped lawn was replaced with a flat, low-maintenance garden featuring decorative gravel, flowering trees, a refined path and steps, minimal planting, and thoughtfully placed landscape lighting. The new entry experience feels open, welcoming, and serene—providing a calm, drought-tolerant oasis that belies its location in the heart of bustling West Los Angeles.
